Leaving Sierra Leone had me also leaving a piece of my heart behind. Thank you Mercy Ships for showing me this side of nursing. Where I get to spend time with my patients, giving them extra love, and lots of hugs. Where we laugh and play and heal from the inside out. Where I’ve given pain medication to a facial surgery patient whose “face hurt from smiling too much”. Where we have dance parties on the ward, where the music is loud, where I get laughed at by my patients because I can’t dance (haha!). Where my patients become my friends. Where we get decorated in stickers and drawings. Where I have time to teach, and listen and show my patients how much I care. Where we cry with our patients, pray with our patients and celebrate with our patients. Where my patients cried with me as I said goodbye. Where my heart has been touched more than I could ever believe. Where we exchange pain and suffering for joy. This can never be a goodbye for me, just a see you soon 💛 #InternationalNursesWeek
