Sweet Salone – Sierra Leone

Sweet Salone – Sierra Leone

I never thought I would come here. To the outside world, Sierra Leone is a place that has taken repeated blows, ranked in 2023 as the third poorest country in the world. A seemingly dangerous place, trying to recover after years of civil unrest, brutalisation and torture during the civil war, as well as one of the worst world wide Ebola epidemics.

But to me, it’s not all those things. It is a place with vibrant colours, busy markets, fast paced traffic, keke’s, beautiful sunsets, bounding hills, a place full of faith and some of the kindest people on earth. I never thought I would adjust and feel not only safe, but comfortable. Yet I was welcomed with such open arms by this country and its people. It is unbelievable how homey this place became to me.

Thank you for two months of adventures and bliss sweet Salone

I’m Jess

Hi, I’m Jess, a 24-year-old ICU Nurse from Coastal Australia. If I am not wearing scrubs, I am probably travelling, chasing adventures, and exploring those off-beaten-path destinations.

After a few gentle nudges from family and friends (okay, maybe more than a few), I’ve decided to start this blog. This will be my digital scrapbook where I capture my travels, hold onto memories, and invite you all – whether you’re a friend, family member or otherwise – to come along for the adventure on the path often less travelled.

Thanks for reading!

Jess
